Going back to school can be intimidating and tough, no matter how long you’ve been home. Many moms wish to stay with their children as they grow, but taking a few years off shouldn’t hold them back from accomplishing their career goals! According to the National Center for Educational Statistics, the number of people over 25 that go back to school will continue to increase significantly, so it’s never too late to head back to school.

We have developed a list of tips for stay-at-home moms that are interested in going back to school, whether they want to finish school, or completely start fresh. Caring for children, a home, and school can be challenging but these tips will help you balance it all.

Create a Schedule That Works for You & Stick to it

Most of the time, classes can be taken either in the morning or evening. So, create a schedule that works best for you. Stick to the same schedule so that you can create a routine. Sometimes an unorganized schedule can lead to things becoming a little hectic, so be sure to plan out each class as it fits within your schedule and stick to a daily routine.

Find Someone To Help Motivate You!

Have any stay-at-home mom friends that are going back to school? Try to hold each other accountable for daily tasks and classes. You don’t have to be taking the same classes to help each other out, just simply being in the same shoes as someone else can help motivate them and you, whether it’s reminding each other of tasks, studying together, or working on projects together.

Find a Babysitter You Trust

There are going to be times when you are going to need quiet studying time or time alone to do work, so it’s best to hire someone you trust to watch your kids. A family member, trusted friend, or even a daycare can help. You’re going to want that time to yourself where you can focus on work, stress-free, which is why it’s best to get a sitter to watch your kids.

Don’t Let Guilt Stop You

It’s completely normal to feel slightly guilty that you aren’t spending as much time with your kids as you normally would. But don’t let this stop you – your loved ones are going to want the best for you and for you to succeed. Also, finishing or starting school can advance your career which likely would benefit your entire family. So, don’t let guilt hold you back, and remember that you are able to balance both family and school with some help.

Believe In Yourself!

Remember that you are fully capable of accomplishing your goals. Remind yourself that these important steps in your education are going to help you and your family. If you are thinking about going back to school or maybe just finishing up where you started, it can 100% be done and you will feel great once you have finished. There is no time limit on those who can go back to school, so if it’s something that you’re interested in, go for it!
